The Chronicles of Narnia Official Site

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

Disney has launched a surprisingly-robust official site for The Chronicles of Narnia.

Downloads, a synopsis and more are already on the site so definitely surf on over if you are anticipating this flick.

XXX Special Edition DVD

Just in time for the 4/29 release of XxX: State of the Union comes this special editon of the original Vin Deisel starring action flick.

This is becoming more and more common: The release of a DVD special edition just weeks before the sequel opens. Too bad so many of these are for completeely forgettable flicks while acknowledged classics go unreleased to date on DVD.

Movie Marketing Meme

I got the idea to put together a bunch of questions relating to the movie marketing experience recently. Here they are. You can leave your responses in the Comments or feel free to post them to your own site if you have one. If you do so, if you would just be good enough to link back here it would be greatly appreciated. Have fun!

Short-Term Memory

What was the last movie you saw in the theater?

How many screens are in that theater?

What trailers do you remember were before that movie?

What posters were scattered throughout the lobby?

Were there standees (cardboard cutouts)? What movies were they for?

Do you read the “Movie Facts” pamphlets before the movie starts?

Do you actually play the trivia games most theaters now put up on the screen before the movie starts? How do you do?

Are you disappointed if you miss the trailers when you go see a movie?

What was the last movie you saw a commercial for on TV?

Which do you tend to like more: Teaser or theatrical trailers?

Do you frequent trailer sites like Yahoo! or Apple? Have you found a movie you might have otherwise missed by visiting these sites?

What was the last website for a movie you visited? What prompted you to do so?

Have you ever downloaded wallpaper, a screensaver or other media from a movies’ website? If so, what was it and from what movie?

Long-Term Memory

What movie really disappointed you after the trailer looked excellent?

What’s the best trailer you can remember?

What’s the best poster you can remember?

What was the first movie website you visited?

What was the first soundtrack you bought just because you liked the movie so much?

Color Me Kubrick Trailer

Color Me Kubrick Trailer

So John Malkovich has decided that the best thing to do is just to compeletly ignore acting and just ham it up from here until doomsday. That’s just fine as nobody looks quite as genius while doing it as Malkotraz (except perhaps Johnny Depp).

This looks kind of funny but the trailer makes such a big deal out of that one joke (“I’m Stanley Kubrick”) that it never gives the rest of the movie any attention. Not sure if that in and of itself can sustain an entire movie.

Harry Potter IV Sneak Peak

When Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets makes its TV debut on ABC on 5/7 it will be interspersed with sneak peaks at Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, arriving in theaters this November.

I’m blanking but have we seen a teaser trailer for this yet? I don’t think so and so here’s my theory on what this “sneak peak” will consist of: Two hours of brief glimpses at footage which is almost completely inconsequential to the plot of the movie and yet hints at specific points that have been directly lifted from the book (thus ensuring positive buzz). At the end of the program we’ll then get a look at a trailer of some sort.

Wanna place any bets?

Eli Chapman has some great points on movie studio’s use of the internet. It compliments my own Emerging Technology rant very nicely.

Batman & Superman Marketing

Superman Hype! – The latest Superman news and rumors

SuperHeroHype has a report on the potential marketing strategy for Superman Returns and how it will tie-in and relate to this summer’s Batman Begins.

I’ve long guessed (as it made complete sense to anyone with half a brain for these things) that the Superman hype would begin with the relaunch of the Batman franchise. Why not? Same audience, same company, etc. A teaser trailer for Superman would be a natural fit to attach to prints of Batman Begins.
