Fandango and Facebook Work to Sell More Movie Tickets

According to reports making the rounds today, Facebook and movie ticket service Fandango are working together to sell tickets directly on the social networks. The partnership is rolling out with next week’s The Magnificent Seven and people will be able to buy their tickets either via ads that appear in their News Feed or on the movie’s Facebook page.

magnificent-seven-pic-1This is super-smart, basically bringing the kind of direct response display ads that have been all over the web for over a decade to the biggest social network in the world. On the other hand, this brings the same kind of direct response display ads that have been all over the web for over a decade to the biggest social network in the world. So it’s not like we’re really innovating here, just finding new outlets for the same old thinking. My hope is there will be some kind of after-action report on this but I’m not holding my breath. Until then, those ads on Facebook are going to have a lot more going on than they did before.
