New from me on PNConnect:

The News – Medium, your favorite platform for reading about the latest Silicon Valley unicorns’ funding round or why a newspaper publisher doesn’t think ad-blocking is a big threat, is going all-in as a publishing platform. Today is rolled out new tools designed to make an even stronger appeal to publishers and convince them to use Medium as their primary platform. To that end it’s touting load times that are much faster than stand-alone sites as well as new tools that will let publications customize their look and feel, adding branding elements that were previously unavailable on the existing site, which emphasizes a clean, uncluttered look.medium logo.

Also available now are two ways for publishers to make money: First, Promoted Stories let publishers add links to stories from brand partners that will appear at the bottom of organic posts. So at the bottom of a story from The Awl or Film School Rejects there may be links to what amount to native ads from a brand advertiser. Second, Membership lets publishers create a members-only area that can contain exclusive content and other perks for those who pay a monthly fee.
