agencychair5Part of the cost-cutting moves by Paramount (tied to decisions by its parent, Viacom) include the cutting of a number of marketing positions at the studio. The reductions coincide with a decision by the studio to slash the number of movies it’s releasing in 2009 from 25 to 20. It’s also related to the earlier merger of Paramount Vantage operations with the studio proper.

On a more positive note, Screen Gems has added Jim Fredrick as its new EVP of Marketing. Fredrick most recently worked at Warner Bros. as a senior VP of creative advertising and prior to that was at Castle Rock.
