Women in Basra, Iraq are being tortured and killed for failing to wear a headscarf or violating other rules for how they are allowed to appear in public.
If this were happening somewhere in Africa (it actually is) I’m sure Bush & Co. would wring their hands and decry it in the strongest possible terms while opting not to actually get involved, instead offering empty words about spreading democracy and supporting freedom fighters. But this is very much our problem because we went and &$#!ed up their country.
