mysummerofloveposterbigThis English film looks like it falls into roughly the same category as Bernardo Bertolucci’s The Dreamers. Dreamy and hypnotic, it’s the story of two girls who meet by chance and the psychological (and sexual) games they play with each other and those around them.

The Trailer

The trailer looked good and definitely presented the film in a way that I liked, but I had reservations. My best guess as to what I was having a problem with was that there didn’t seem to be any new or original take on the material. It was as if I could see the whole movie play out just by virtue of the trailer.

The Poster

Again, not much new here. Two waifish girls in an idyllic summer setting. One dark hair and vaguely Mediterranean looking, the other fair-skinned and such. It’s good but not great.

The Website

There’s not much to the site other than some rudimentary press materials and the trailer. Like a lot of smaller, independent movies the site contains information on showings and, unlike major studio releases, actually lists press contacts. I wish more movies had this.

Overall

The lack of originallity I’m picking up from the trailer and poster may or may not be indicative of the movie as a whole. I hope not since I’m a fan of smaller movies and want to see as many succeed as possible. If the movie is as vaguelly uninspired as the trailer makes it seem then it may not break into an audience the way it should.
