Universal Pictures had a bit of Back to the Future Part II-related fun yesterday.

Firs Pepsi announced it would release a limited edition Pepsi Perfect bottle on October 21st, the day Doc, Marty and Jennifer travel to in the opening of the movie. Pepsi Perfect, you’ll remember, is what Marty gets when he walks into the Cafe 80s to try and stop his son from getting involved with Grif.

Then in the afternoon Universal released a teaser trailer for Jaws 19, the movie Marty sees playing at the theater in 2015 downtown Hill Valley.

The trailer is pretty fun as it counts off EVERY sequel to the movie, starting with the real ones and going through Jaws 18, which was apparently a gritty reboot of the franchise after years of sharks in space, sharks fighting Russian sharks, Brody’s grandson assembling a team of shark-killing professionals and more, basically covering every sequel trope around and then some.

I love it when studios embrace the weird like this. It’s a nice promotional beat for Pepsi and I’m sure those limited edition bottles will become collector’s items in short order. And it’s fun to see it extending the joke that was begun in the movie and which is largely at the studio’s own expense.
